    MOBILE  EQUINE VETERINARY DENTAL CLINIC

We work out of a 25' custom built, air-coditioned, equine dental aluminum trailer. It is 8'-6" tall by  8' wide.

We examine and treat horses in the trailer in a set of aluminum stocks. The majority of horses do walk in the trailer on their own as it is big and light and open with a exit door at the front left side. If need be, we can open it up even further. The horses are brought into the trailer and sedated. If we do have a horse that we have trouble loading in the trailer, they are sedated on the outside and then led in before the sedation totally takes effect.

We have worked on hundreds of horses in this manner without any major issues.  If any horse absolutely does not want to load or we feel is going to be too stressed to have the dental procedure done in our hospital, we are fully capable of performing the procedure along the outside of our hospital if needed.

Advantages to our patients and clients:

    • The sedated horse is more comfortable being supported by the stocks and relaxing in the air-conditioning , rather than trying to balance precariously on their own in a stall corner.
    • Dr. Jay Clifford & Richard Grist assure that the patient  is comfortable and not staggering or falling down. These working conditions are rarely available under normal farm or barn conditions.
    • We have excellent restraint, good lighting and the availability of equipment and diagnostics close at hand.  This equates into a better job of diagnosing, balancing and treating your horse.
    • We use a safety belt restraint for the horse, preventing he or she from coming out of sedation and hurting him or herself.
    • If you have had to hold a horse's head on your shoulder, you know how uncomfortable that is. It is also a very real and dangerous possibility that you could get severely injured with your head that close to the horse's head. We use a padded electric head lift that will extend & adjust to the horses height and length.
    • We have found that horse owners enjoy the mobile clinic setting along with the air conditioning as well as keeping the horse comfortable. We offer full explanation while working with the horse along with hands on for the client via oral camera. We also have skulls and pictures that we have available for them to learn from while their horses are being treated.
