I first met Richard Grist in December of 2005 when I purchased my very first horse. A teenage thoroughbred, his dental work was overdue and my veterinarian recommended Richard for the task. Because I am a long time RN, I came to the appointment with many, many questions and a specific expectation of the care my horse would receive. I wanted Snowshoes to be safe and have a thorough procedure, but I also wanted a professional who would be willing to help me on the learning curve of a new horse owner. Richard certainly fulfilled both of those; he spent several hours with us, demonstrated and explained each step of the process, and made sure I understood why the care was necessary. At one point, he even met some of my sons and seemed to enjoy teaching them as well. Snowshoes tolerated several repeat visits without incident and never had any feeding or dental issues.

Two years ago, I acquired another horse and have continued this relationship with Richard. My current horse is much younger and certainly much larger, thus offering different issues to manage. The addition of Jay Clifford DVM and of the mobile lab is something I view as a huge benefit to both horses and their owners. For me, the safety and wellness of my “best friend is paramount. Not only do I feel secure in Richard and Jay’s ability to treat my horse’s dental needs, I also feel that they are well equipped for any problem that could be encountered. In general, nurses are notoriously the very worst patients; our expectations of other health care professionals are quite high. Advanced Equine Dentistry certainly has always exceeded those expectations for me as a horse owner. I will definitely continue to recommend them to my horse friends who are looking for true partners in the care of their own very “best friend”.

We wanted to Thank you for the great job that you did on Dealem Tiny, aka "Sadie" while we were at the NBHA show in Perry, GA over the 4th of July. Sadie belongs to a very good friend of ours-Corey Breedlove.

Katie had the opportunity to ride her for about 8 months back in 2007. Katie and Sadie joined together again in June of 2009 and have been a team ever since. Everyone that has been around "Sadie" knows that you have to drive her every step of the way and she does not normally run past a barrel, much less all the way to the wall. Sadie has been having trouble at the first barrel since May of this year. After missing the first barrel in Friday nights go round, a decision was made to have the equine dentist check her out. Nothing was said to Dr Clifford or Richard about the issues that Sadie had been having. After the examination, we were impressed that you told us exactly what problems she had been having at the first barrel and that it could be fixed. Then you went to work. Later that afternoon Katie rode her around and she could already tell a difference. During Saturday and Sunday's go round, Sadie had the best first barrel that has had in a long time. Thank you so much!!!

THANK YOU

I have been a horse owner for over 40 years and the annual floating of my horses teeth was just something you did along with getting your Coggin's test drawn. It was not until I was introduced to Advanced Equine Dentistry that I realized how much more important thorough dental care was for my horses. After one visit, I saw changes in the way my horses accepted the bit, carried their heads and chewed their feed.

I have students that have spent hundreds of dollars trying bit after bit on their horses only to find that it was a dental problem all along. Whenever I see a horse with head tossing, avoidance of the bit, rushing fences or showing signs of back or neck pain, I now tell them to have their horse's teeth examined by Advanced Equine Dentistry.

I also had unusual cases. Two of my horses, both large drafts, managed to fracture molars that needed extraction. Richard and Jay were wonderful and caring and both horses went back to work with no problems. My warmblood had also cracked an incisor which needed extraction. I never noticed the hairline crack, but he had gotten hard to bridle. Imagine having a cracked tooth and a metal bit being knocked against it ever time you were being bridled. The tooth was removed and now he is his old self about being bridled.

The dental trailer is state of the art. The horses stand in air conditioned comfort with properly monitored sedation by a veterinarian. Have geldings? Have that sheath cleaned while the horse is safely confined in the stocks. Don't know what your horse weighs? The scale in the floor will give you an accurate reading which helps when it comes to dosing wormer and other medications during the year.

In today's economy, horse owners have to decide how to spend money wisely when it comes to their horses' health. I would suggest a visit from Advanced Equine before going out and buying the latest bits and gadgets. You may be surprised at what you find!
